Sepsis is a frequent complication in patients with different pathologies, such as myocardial infarct. The development of new affordable diagnostic biomarkers, aimed at determining the risk of secondary infections and sepsis in these patients can avoid the appearance of complications associated with severe sepsis and in many cases death.

Thanks to the knowledge acquired during these studies, Crazy Science has developed a new diagnostic technique based on real-time PCR, to determine the predisposition to infections in patients with myocardial infarction.

Beatriz Salvador Esteban

With a PhD in Molecular Biology she has more than 20 years of research experience both in international laboratories of basic science and in biotechnology companies in the fields of infectious diseases and immunology.

After her postdoctoral work studying the transmission of infectious diseases, she graduated from IE Business School and joined Diomune SL as R&D responsible, a company dedicated to the search and development of immunomodulatory treatments. Her entrepreneurial spirit has led her to collaborate with the Chamber of Commerce of Spain in San Francisco, helping Spanish companies to establish themselves internationally, and she has also carried out consultancy work for numerous biotechnology companies in the drafting of business plans and proposals to obtain public and private funding.

In addition, she participates as an external expert evaluator, for both scientific quality and innovation, for the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 financing program.

Miguel Ángel Llamas Matías

Has more than 17 years of experience in research, during that time he has participated in scientific research from the lab technician to the General Management of a Biotechnology company.

He has a Master in Administration and Direction of biotechnological base companies from the prestigious ALITER business school. He worked in the development of vaccines in the company Bionostra SL and Chimera Pharma SLU and for 6 years he directed the search for immunomodulators in Diomune SL; As a Doctor in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the Complutense University of Madrid, with the award of extraordinary thesis CUM Laude 2007 he has enjoyed stays at the National Biotechnology Center, the Severo Ochoa Molecular Biology Center of Madrid and at the University Hospital La Paz.

Finally, he has a deep entrepreneurial attitude and has led the creation of two companies ISUH SL and Sociedad Versátil de Contenidos SL, being currently Chief Executive Officer of Empireo SL (www.empireo.es).
